No app to install Temporary session Phone becomes the remote
01

Four steps from phone to television

The TV displays the picture. The phone selects the file and controls playback.

  1. 1
Open the player on the TV

Open shareBySquare TV in a modern television or computer browser and create a temporary TV session.

  2. 2
    Choose the playback mode

Use encrypted Private Direct for a natively supported video, or Compatible Play when the file needs server conversion.

  3. 3
    Pair the phone

Scan the QR code, open the displayed link or enter the one-time pairing code on the phone.

  4. 4
    Send and control the video

Choose a permitted video file. When it is ready, play, pause, seek and adjust the TV from the mobile controller.

02

Two playback modes, two privacy models

Choose the mode before pairing. The difference matters when a television cannot play the original video.

Encrypted path

Private Direct

The phone encrypts the original file and the TV decrypts it for playback. The server transfers ciphertext and does not convert the video.

  • Best privacy when the TV supports the container and codecs.
  • No server-side analysis, transcoding, track extraction or quality variants.
Explicit processing consent

Compatible Play

With explicit consent, the server temporarily analyzes and converts the unencrypted file to a TV-friendly video.

  • Creates compatible H.264/AAC MP4 and can prepare adaptive HLS.
  • Can preserve audio tracks and convert text subtitles to WebVTT.
03

Video format support

A file extension is only a container. Actual playback also depends on the video codec, audio codec and capabilities of the TV browser.

DIRECT

Native browser formats

Private Direct accepts MP4, M4V, MOV and WebM when the television supports their codecs, commonly H.264, HEVC or AV1 with AAC, Opus or Vorbis.

INPUT

Compatible Play inputs

The server can verify MP4/MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI/DivX, WMV/ASF, MPEG/MPG/VOB, TS/MTS/M2TS, 3GP, FLV/F4V, OGV/OGG, RM/RMVB, DV, MXF and selected raw video streams.

OUTPUT

TV-friendly output

Compatible Play prepares H.264 video with AAC audio in MP4, plus optional adaptive HLS. Availability depends on the FFmpeg tools and limits configured on the server.

04

The phone becomes the remote control

Commands are sent to the paired TV and the controller waits for the television to confirm the new playback state.

05

Temporary by design

Pairing grants access to one media session, not to other files or the rest of a shareBySquare account.

One-time pairing

The QR, link and code connect the controller to a temporary session. Do not share them outside the intended room.

Clear consent boundary

Private Direct transfers encrypted media. Compatible Play requires a separate explicit consent because the server must process an unencrypted copy.

Session cleanup

End the session when finished. Temporary media is scheduled for deletion when the session closes or expires, according to service limits.

06

What you need

No television app or account is required, but both devices need a supported browser and access to the service.

  • A modern browser on the TV or a computer connected to the screen.
  • Internet access on both devices; they do not have to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • JavaScript and secure browser APIs for Private Direct; server conversion tools for Compatible Play.
07

Frequently asked questions

Do both devices need the same Wi-Fi?

No. Both devices only need access to shareBySquare. The temporary pairing link connects them to the same session.

Do I need to install an app?

No. The TV player and mobile controller run in a browser.

What if the TV cannot play my video?

Try Compatible Play if server conversion is available. It prepares a more widely supported MP4 and may also provide adaptive HLS.

How long is my video kept?

The media is temporary and is scheduled for deletion after the session closes or expires. Exact limits follow the current service rules.
