Video from your phone, PC or Cloud to the big screen

Open shareBySquare TV on the television, connect a phone by QR or a PC with the 8-character code, choose a local or Cloud video and use the connected device as the remote control.

01

Four steps from controller to television

The TV displays the picture. A phone or PC selects the source and controls playback.

  1. 1
Open the player on the TV

Open shareBySquare TV in a modern television or computer browser and create a temporary TV session.

  2. 2
    Choose the playback mode

Use Private Direct for a TV-supported local video, Compatible Play when server conversion is needed, or Cloud Play for an eligible encrypted Cloud video.

  3. 3
    Connect the controller

Scan the QR code on a phone, copy the controller link, or enter the 8-character session code on a PC.

  4. 4
    Send and control the video

Upload a permitted video from the controller device or choose an eligible Cloud video. When it is ready, control playback from the paired controller.

02

Three playback modes, clear privacy boundaries

Choose the mode before pairing. The difference matters for conversion, Cloud playback and what the server is allowed to process.

Encrypted path

Private Direct

The paired device encrypts the original file and the TV decrypts it for playback. The server transfers ciphertext and does not convert the video.

  • Best privacy when the TV supports the container and codecs.
  • No server-side analysis, transcoding, track extraction or quality variants.
Explicit processing consent

Compatible Play

With explicit consent, the server temporarily analyzes and converts the unencrypted file to a TV-friendly video.

  • Creates compatible H.264/AAC MP4 and can prepare adaptive HLS.
  • Can preserve audio tracks and convert text subtitles to WebVTT.
Encrypted Cloud source

Cloud Play

Play an encrypted video stored in your shareBySquare Cloud. The connected device hands the key to the TV; the server does not see the content.

  • Requires an active Platinum Cloud vault on the paired device.
  • Uses TV-supported MP4, MOV or WebM directly; Cloud Play does not transcode unsupported files.
03

Video format support

A file extension is only a container. Actual playback also depends on the video codec, audio codec and capabilities of the TV browser.

DIRECT

Native browser formats

Private Direct and Cloud Play use MP4, M4V, MOV and WebM only when the television supports their codecs, commonly H.264, HEVC, AV1, VP8 or VP9 with AAC, Opus or Vorbis.

INPUT

Compatible Play inputs

The server can verify MP4/MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI/DivX, WMV/ASF, MPEG/MPG/VOB, TS/MTS/M2TS, 3GP, FLV/F4V, OGV/OGG, RM/RMVB, DV, MXF and selected raw video streams.

OUTPUT

TV-friendly output

Compatible Play prepares H.264 video with AAC audio in MP4, plus optional adaptive HLS. Availability depends on the FFmpeg tools and limits configured on the server.

04

The paired device becomes the remote control

Commands are sent to the paired TV and the controller waits for the television to confirm the new playback state.

05

Temporary by design

Pairing grants access to one media session, not to other shares or the rest of a shareBySquare Cloud vault.

One-time pairing

The QR, link and code connect the controller to a temporary session. Do not share them outside the intended room.

Clear consent boundary

Private Direct and Cloud Play stay client-encrypted. Compatible Play requires separate explicit consent because the server must process an unencrypted temporary copy.

Session cleanup

End the session when finished. Temporary TV media is removed when the session closes or expires; a Cloud source remains governed by its own Cloud retention rules.

06

What you need

No television app is required, but the TV and the controller device need supported browsers and access to the service.

  • A modern browser on the TV or a computer connected to the screen, plus a phone or PC as the controller.
  • Internet access on both devices; they do not have to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Secure browser APIs for encrypted modes; server conversion tools for Compatible Play; an active Platinum Cloud vault for Cloud Play.

Frequently asked questions

Do both devices need the same Wi-Fi?

No. Both devices only need access to shareBySquare. The temporary pairing link connects them to the same session.

Do I need to install an app or use a phone?

No. The TV player and controller run in a browser. A phone can scan the QR code, and a PC can connect with the 8-character session code.

What if the TV cannot play my video?

Try Compatible Play if server conversion is available. Cloud Play follows Private Direct rules, so unsupported Cloud videos are rejected instead of transcoded.

How long is my video kept?

TV session media is temporary and is scheduled for deletion after the session closes or expires. A Cloud source stays in your Cloud until its own retention or deletion rule applies.
